The first tools were used to kill animals and then butcher the meat. Tools were also first used for cutting branches, building shelters, cutting up plants, and cleaning animals hides so they could be made into clothing.
Homo erectus first learned how to intentionally make fire. Fire gave warmth to early humans. It also enabled them to cook food and scare away wild animals. It was also used for hunting, homo erectus could start a forest on fire to scare all the animals out and then kill them for food or clothing.
