How did America's role in, and views, of the federal government change between 1865

and and 1945? Do you.... think the federal government became more or less involved in the daily lives of Americans? Why?
 
The creation of a new kind of citizen in the 14th Amendment put the Federal government in our lives forever, but not necessarily for better. "Citizens of the United States" did not exist before that amendment. It protected blacks, which it was intended to do, by giving the Fed govt the power to protect them.
But it gave the Fed govt the power to do such things as to "enter our bedrooms," to create a Fed. income tax, and to generally be "Big Brother."
It was the beginning of the end of "state's rights."
