Party? Ford opposed the 2003 Iraq war tooth-and-nail, as we found out in that 2006 Woodword embargoed interview with the ailing commander-in-chief.

How could he go against the line of his own party. Yes, some fringe congressmen and governors were opposed to it, but a former President is a big deal.

Please explain.

He did not betray the Republican Party. Virtually everyone in Congress offered unwavering support for the war, including Hilary Clinton.

Obama was a state politician in Springfield, IL at the time. We can't be sure how he would have voted if he had been "inside the beltway."

It is inaccurate to suggest the war was originally more likely to be supported or opposed by politicians from one party or the other. It was initially a wildly popular was among both parties.
