How come we don't use A.D (After Death) when discussing more recent dates?

??????? ???c?

I was just thinking about how whenever we're talking about history we use the terms B.C. and sometimes A.D., but we still don't say A.D. when discussing more recent dates, like birthdays. I would never say that I was born in the year 1995 A.D., when technically I was born 1995 A.D. Is there a particular reason for this, or do people just not bother to say it correctly because it's kind of unnecessary? Thanks : ) ?
