How come the photos don't come transparent in Photoshop Cs4? or Cs5?

I've been trying to make a really cool picture with a transparent background but..... everytime when i post a pic in the forums the backgorund DOES NOT COME OUT TRANSPARENT IT COMES OUT WHITE? what should I do?
