How come on the penny, Lincoln's face is to the right?

On the penny Lincoln's head is on the right. While on the other currency, the heads face to the left. Why is this?
As long as thats the reason its satisfying.
 
I know this isn't a very satisfying answer, but that's simply the way the designer chose to do it. He based his picture on an existing image; in that image, Lincoln was facing right.
