How come I cant hook my ps2 up to my 13 inch T.V?

Ok i have all the cables and all of the crap you need I plug it in to the TV and to the outlet in the wall and i try turning it on and nothing happens the input cabels on my tv are white and yellow you dont need red because all it is ,is sound for the system....anything i can do?
yea i hit input
