How come Harley Davidson doesn't make a dirtbike?

How come? Might be cool. Seems like they would at least attempt it? Be another product to add to the line up. I'm sure they could use the money. P.S. I know they made the old AMF dirt bikes, but I know nothing about them.
They make a 750? What model is it? Sportster? is that what Evel Knievel rode?

the xr 750 is not a sportster, its a 750 c.c. bike made for the flattrack. and they made a dirtbike way back in the day.It was to heavy compared to the jap stuff.

Some time in the early '90s, Harley had a dual sport/military bike powered by a Rotax power plant. I don't think the military bought any.A local dealer had one with a price tag of $14k, about four time what a KLR650 was selling for. At $3500, I might have been interested.

At $3500, I might be interested in a V-twin, too. It's hard to justify spending $20k for butt jewelry, but I might consider one if you could get one for anywhere its real value as a motorcycle.
