How come cricket never really caught on in Ireland?

Irish

I don't know anything about cricket, find it confusing even to watch but I wonder why it was never popular here in Ireland? I know we have a national cricket team who did reasonably well in some cricket world cup or something recently. Is it that it's seen as "too" British a game? But so too is rugby - very popular, as is football (soccer) - very popular. Or was cricket viewed as representing the "upper classes" moreso than say football and was there an association (rightly or wrongly) that it was the British (English) "upper classes" who surpressed Irish nationalism the most? Thanks.
Yeah, Ireland beat Pakistan I think. Rather surprising but tbh I don't think there was any fixing going on. Sometimes teams get lucky, sometimes teams are unlucky.
