i heard that if you had files on your USB drive and you format it, then no recovery software will be able to recover the files. But, if the files have only been deleted then recovery software will generally work if you haven't overwritten that file sector with new stuff. What I'm asking is, apart from using a recovery software, if your drive is empty, can you figure out if someone formatted it vs. just deleted all the files on it?
