That rule is if you prevent goalie from moving to make a save, how can he make a save behind his net. Call it interference if you want with a 2 min penalty. That call was impossible.
Machinehead, that rule is in place if a player is in the way preventing the goalie from getting across the crease to make a save. Fleury made the decision to go behind the net leaving it unprotected, the contact happened behind the net- not in front preventing him to move across. in fact he got back and dove across with the goal going in behind him anyway. If they called a penalty on Ovechkin for interference I would not have agreed with it but I would have understood the call.
What he called was not in the rulebook IMO.
Thanks for looking it up Bob, that was my interpretation but was too lazy to look it up. Fleury did a bit to much wandering tonight given the conditions. Ice conditions really have more effect on the skill guys, the grinders simple plays won this one.
