It seems like cable news networks are destroying any vestiges of civilized political discourse that remained in this country. They fail discuss what we need to hear because there's no money in it. They simply tell us what we want to hear. Why is it that whenever we hear about a bill passing through the legislature 95% of the discussion is about peoples reactions to the bill while almost no time is committed to whats actually in the bill. And I'm not just talking about Fox. CNN and MSNBC are just as bad in their own ways. Are we just idiots. Do they simply understand us all too well? Many people think that the problem is bias and in some instances I agree but ultimately all news coverage is inherently biased and to a certain extent it should be. In some cases they aren't biased enough. Like when they invite a gay rights advocate on to discuss a topic and then invite some homophobic redneck to provide "Both sides of the story". Not only do they invite these brain dead idiots on, but they consistently fail to call them out on their bullshit. Meanwhile quality news publications are falling by the wayside because most people are too dumb or lazy to read anything beyond a paragraph or two. If you really wanna do the yourself a favor, turn off the idiot box and get a subscription to the Washington Post, or the Wall Street Journal, or the New York Times. I'm pretty sure they all offer free subscriptions to their newsletters.Even better go pick up a copy of Time magazine or the Atlantic. Does anybody out there understand where I'm coming from? Do you think there will ever be enough room for serious discussion of the issues on major networks?
