medieval themes in art? I understand that the medieval-themed inspirations for art, literature, etc, were more based on Medieval folklore (like Arthur), rather then really admiring historical Medieval monarchs....

but wasn't it still a bit contradictory to the political standpoints during the Romantic Age?

I mean, let's get rid of our king, but create paintings of past Medieval folklore?
