If one doesn't agree with some policies involving the President? Not a particular President but just in general.

Especially asking to veterans: what made you look past a President's policies and still get the job done?

you can have your own opinions of the Commander in Chief but he's still the superior of all the military, so you react to his policies the same as any other officer you might disagree with, you bite your tongue and do as you're told

that's part of what they drill into you in training, like it not, he's your boss and unless youre asked something illegal, follow orders

The army is a job, just like you wake up and go to work. we do the same thing. Personally, i am in for my son, to make sure he is taken care of. I don't care about the policies. I'm not a politician, I'm a soldier. besides they are paying me to go to college...lol

I served under seven Presidents. There was only one who made me almost ill with his inept foreign policy. But, you take an oath which includes your vowing to obey his lawful orders and the orders of the officers appointed over you. So, you put your pants on, get to work and leave the political griping sessions for another time and another place.
It derives from one of Napoleon's maxims: "If you cannot follow the orders of your sovereign you are obligated to resign your commission and condemn him from outside."

When you sign on the line you become a tool of the US government. You may have your own beliefs on government policy but you have sworn to do your duty as an American Soldier. If that means going and fighting for a reason you oppose then you must do it. If you can't deal with that then you shouldn't sign up at all. Whether you die for oil, freedom or a belief, it makes no matter. You were sent to do a job and the job must get done....period. Like it or not YOU signed up for it.
