..."worth it"..? ..when the vast majority of military analysts and strategists, top brass commanders on and off the field, front-line soldiers, diplomats, world leaders, historians and political scientists -all argue otherwise? Either nearly EVERYONE else is wrong, that is to say, either most of our planet's most brilliant minds are wrong, and a mediocre intellect like George W. Bush has struck "paydirt" on some hidden gem of an intellectual epiphany, or George W. Bush is completely arrogant and/or mentally insane and/or retarded. Thoughts?
I don't want to make this question appear to be a "Bush hating" bandwagon. But let's be very honest here: are there any Republicans here who can sincerelyy say that this war was "worth it". Even if you love the Republican credo (and God knows what that might be), you have to admit this fits all the criteria of a fiasco. But if you feel otherwise, I welcome your input.

What did you expect him to say?

We knew years ago that Bush is not able to admit or correct mistakes. And he doesn't really know for himself what's going on, he needs a staff to tell him what his own opinions are.

I really think his administration knows the war is a failure but they don't feel they'll be blamed for it until they admit it's a failure. They know our policies aren't working but they are completely unable to back off and try something different, so they can only insist that everything is great, the situation is improving, we're winning the war.

I think their only strategy at this point is to keep the war going until the Democrats take it out of their hands. Then for the next few decades, Republicans will insist that we were WINNING the war but the Democrats made us -surrender-.

Meanwhile the war is an incredible success for Bush's -real- reasons. He is still able to shovel billions of taxpayer dollars to Halliburton, KB&R, Blackwater, etc., all big campaign contributors. As a 'war president' he can still act like a tin-pot dictator, arresting and torturing at will with no limitations like habeas corpus. And he can still bash his critics as being unpatriotic to criticize a president during wartime. And even his strongest supporter would have to admit there's no way he would have gotten a second term without the war.

Somehow, I think that you have answered your own question.

There are somepeople in this world who have gone through life without ever having to admit they made a mistake. Our Pres. is one of those misguided individuals. Feel sorry for him. He doesnt know how to admit that he is wrong.
