How can I win a small claims court case if I don't have my CA. contractor license yet ?

and I sue a client that hired me in craigslist and knew that I was unlicensed to perform a remodeling at his house,and now refuses to pay for it;but he signed a contact. Thank u people for taking the time to answer.
