How can I use volume control in windows xp on one program and not another???

I have downloaded a program that doesn't have volume control on it. How do I listen to itunes and not have sound on my other program. I recently had windows vista which gave you the option of muting or adjusting volume on every program you had running. Please help this is driving me nuts :S
