How can I tune my bmx bike to make it easier to pedal?

What can I do to my bike to make it smoother to ride?
Right now it's awkwardly difficult to pedal. I've aired the tires, which only helped a bit. I've got to oil the chain, but what else can I do?
Note: I'm a chick and know very little about bikes. lol
