when I'm not there)? I adopted my dog from a shelter almost two years ago. I have her house trained and the basic sit-stay commands. I live in a campus-affiliated apartment with three roommates. Occasionally maintenance workers and just people from the apartments' office do walk-throughs of the apartment, sometimes without giving the residents prior notice. My dog is the absolute sweetest dog in the world, once she knows you. But with new people she becomes very protective and growls at whoever is in the house. It doesn't help that we had a break-in last December which has made her even more protective of her "turf". How can I train her to know that other people will be coming into the house and that it is okay? I know this is kind of going against her natural instinct to protect, but she needs to stop being so aggressive towards the apartment workers. (She's a corgi-terrier mix, if that helps.) Please help!
