Game Tester

Hello everybody. My name is Matt and I would like to be a video game tester. I have been looking at it for quite some time and plan to run my own business when I finish college. But I want to be a tester on the side at home. Is this even possible? I have been looking at sites like Activision, Microsoft, etc.
None of the sites offer open testing. It would be nice if I got paid to test. I have been a "hardcore" gamer for quite some time. I especially like shooters like Halo, Call of Duty, and Bad Company. I would possibly like to test this kind of game.
Is it even possible to try to become a tester? I don't even care if I get paid at first, I just want to get into that industry.
If you can help, that would be great! If not, that's fine too.
