how can I test the quality of my indoor air?

I suspect that our home may have a mold problem as my wife is having unexplained health problems and doctors have told us that we may be infested with mold. I don't see any physical evidence of this but was told that I could test the air quality to see what pans out. I've heard that home test kits are expensive and time consuming..is there another method or maybe a device that could be purchased that would test the air quality for contaminents in my home?
