How can I test my garnet?

Ok, I asked a previous question of whether or not my garnet necklace was real or not. That didn't really answer my question, so, I'm moving onto the next step: Does anyone know of a way I can test garnet to see if it's real? I know everyone out there is more concerned with testing diamonds, but i'm more interested in this garnet. I want to make sure I didn't get CZ, I want the real thing. So can anyone tell me of a way to test GARNET for being real? Thank you in advance ^_^.
 
you could probably just take it to a jewelers, they will most likely be able to tell you whether or not it is real.
