I recently found a neat Hercules 3-speed bike, minus the rear wheel, in a dumpster. The name badge on the handlebar stem says 'Hercules' and in smaller letters, 'Birmingham'. The frame has a decal on it that says 'guaranteed English lightweight.' I know that for many years, Hercules bikes were made in Birmingham, then later they were bought by Raliegh and manufactured elsewhere. I am inclined to think the bike really was made in Birmingham, which gives me a clue to possible years of manufacture. Am I on the right track, and are there other clues I should look for?
[It is my plan to install an old 26" Schwinn rear wheel with 3-speed S/A hub that I happen to have gotten for free a couple weeks back, because this seems like a bike someone should be riding.]
