how can i tell my fish is pregnent?

it is weird because ui have two fish Nemo(boy) and Cleo(girl) i found that nemo became fatter and cleo had black over her face for a few weeks then it went away what does that mean?

What species of fish? How can you tell they are definitely male and female? I have a suspicion you may have goldfish? If so, they do not get pregnant.

The only fish that truely go through pregnancy are livebearing fish like guppies and mollies. Not egg-laying fish like Bettas, Goldfish and Danios.

If you have Goldfish - the reason one got fat would be over-eating and possible constipation (which, if left untreated, can cause internal disorders and death) and the black markings sound like ammonia burns - are they in a proper filtered tank that's been through the nitrogen cycle?
