How can I tell if my friend has an eating disorder?

My friend is 17 years old, and she has been losing a lot of weight recently. She's a competitive gymnast, principal's list student, and a gymnastics coach. I've heard that it's most common for over-achievers to have these types of disorders. In the last two months, she's lost approximately 15 pounds. She's now around 120-125 pounds and 5'8. As I said, she's a gymnast, and has a huge amount of muscle mass. She used to weight around 145 pounds, but was still skinny because her weight was mostly muscle. She only eats a small amount of vegetables at school, and I've caught her throwing away her lunches several times. I know that her mom is suspicious, and watches her eating closely. I have a feeling that she may eat in front of people, and then throw it up later. I'm really worried about her and don't know what to do. Are there any medical tests that can prove that she is anorexic/bulimic? Every time someone talks to her about it, she denies that there is a problem. I'm scared that she will continue to deny it and get out of control. Does anyone have any experience in this area? If so, how did you handle it?
