how can i take some really cool scene pictures?

like, im really into this whole scene look right now, and they always have these incredible, almost professional looking pics done that they do themselves.
i know touch ups is one way to go, but my parents won't let me download photoshop...

can you help me out with this??
poses, angles, styles, etc...
