Seperation anxiety... flattering for humans, but not good for dogs. He needs to learn that he can still have fun when you are not around. Don't nurture his fears by saying "good boy, its okay" when he cries, you need to ignore him. Leave him "surprises" in his space, for him to find when you're gone, by hiding treats and other goodies in his toys. Make sure he's got lots of balls and chew toys to play with too.

9 weeks is pretty young, to be left home all day. Can you (or someone else) get home on the lunch break to let the pup out to relieve himself and get some exercise (a short walk?). That's what I still do with my pup, and he's 16 weeks. A good walk in the morning, and one at lunch time, will wear him out so he'll sleep a lot of the time that you're gone.

he's just a baby - and a very social animal.
but i used to leave a ticking clock - wit my pup
or even turn a radio on.
the voice - and constant talking and sound should help some...

try leaving a radeo or tv on so that he will think there is someone home. my grandma does that with her cats and dog.

well when your at home he should stay with you at all times, just to hopefully prevent accidents. otherwise, when you leave, just make sure you put him in his crate, don't say anything to him, don't make eye contact and then leave. he'll get over it eventually. my puppy did it for a while, over time they calm down, once they realize you come back everytime. it will be ok.

Puppy's need tons of attention, but here are some things to keep in mind:

Establish a rountine when you leave (just like when you put a baby to bed), so they get used to the ritual. I always make my dog do a few things, like: get in your bed, sit, stay, and put a biscuit in front of her, and then say "ok" right as we leave, so she goes after the dog bone.

Whatever your routine is, keep it consistant, and you will find your dog's whining will decrease after a few days, and after a week-should be mostly if not all...gone.

Note: As you have a puppy, you also might want to consider crate training to help him with his house breaking, too.

Good luck!

toys, radio, ticking clock, blanket to snuggle in, a stuffed animal to snuggle up to, and more check ins to make sure he's OK. He's just been taken from a group and put by himself. He's confused, misses Mom and litter mates and doesn't understand - just like any baby. That's what he is - a baby.
Don't make a big deal out of it when you leave - that just increases the anxiety, and when you are home... pop in and out in shorter intervals so he gets more used to it. AND give him alot of love attention and playtime for socialization!

never make a big deal about leaving. no long good byes no cuddles just leave. When you come back make a huge deal about how great it is to see him again.

It's just his age. My little guy did that when we first got him too. What I did that helped was went to the pet store and got a stuffed animal that was big enough for him to cuddle with (not one of the small one's to play with). Then, I would ciddle with this toy at night &, when I leave for the day, I would give him the toy. Because I cuddle with the toy at night, it smells like me, so, he takes it right in his bed and cuddles with it while I'm away. You also may want to get a hot water bottle and cover it with a blanket & put that in his bed/crate. The warmth makes him feel as if he's cuddleing with you. Pair that with the stuffed animal that smells like you and it will really help. :) Also, do you have a radio that you could put near him (that he can't get at)? If so, put it on one of those annoying AM talk radio stations and leave it near him. The sounds of a person constantly blabbing will make him think someone's there.

As for the whining when you leave the room, my little guy did this too. So, what I did is, everytime he started to cry I would say "Winston, I'm right in here. If you want to be near me, come in here too" (my puppy's name is Winston). After saying it a few times, he would come in the room. After that, he started to just know to follow me, or, that I was just in the other room and would be back in a few minutes.

it's seperation anxiety. You have to work on it in order for him to get better. Take your dog to training always help.
These exercise will also help you can start by leaving the room, then reappear after a few minutes. If your dog doesn't cry, praise it and give it a treat. Repeat exercise. Slowly adding more time before your reappear. Don't ever make a big deal when you leave. That intensify the fear.
Get people to help you on this. Take your dog somewhere, hand your dog to a "stranger" (someone who's helping that your dog have never met) Walk away, come back in a minute or so.
The whole point of the exercise is to tell your dog it's ok that you go away for a while, you will always return.
Walk your pup everyday before you leave if possible so it is tired and will go to bed while you are gone.
Give your dog a toy to play with say a Kong, a puzzle toy that can entertain him for hours. Eventually your dog will get that you are just gone for a while and will be back.
Good luck.

get a stuffed animal or blanket that has your scent to put in his box/kennel with him so your scent it with him, you can also get one of those wind up travel clocks the ticking is soothing.
