I have a 4.5 month old wirehaired dachshund - he goes into a cage every night and until recently we have had no problems with him at all. He cant be lonley - he goes to work with my partner every day, he has 2 good walks every day and he gets lots of affection in the evening - the last few nights he has started to bark and whimper when we put him in his cage - he doesnt need to go to the toilet, he isnt hungry he just wants us with him!! We have tried the hard love approach and close the door and let him bark so he knows that he will not achieve anything in the process and eventually (an hour or so later) he gives up an sleeps through the night. Am I doing the right thing? Will he stop this? Could there be a dog on heat nearby that is causing him to act this way? Is there anything else I can do?
