How can i put music from Bearshare(like limewire,raphsody) onto my ipod?

How can i put music from Bearshare(like limewire,raphsody) onto my ipod?
okay i used to have limewire and did this with no problem! but now im not able to use that so im using bearshare. heres what im doing:

i download the songs on bearshare.

i find the song files and open it up (on 'My Computer')

i plug in my ipod and open it up also. (on 'My Computer')

then i drag the song files onto the ipod file but it says...'the device has either stopped responding or is not connecting'

i dont see how its not connected...well anywho. please help me! why isnt it working?
