How can I play Sims 3 Generations without a disc?

I recently downloaded Sims 3 Generations, I found a serial code that worked and the installation went fine, but once I started playing it told me I need the disc to play, is there a way I can play without the disc, like edit something in the ReadMe file or something like that?
