How can I play Japanese games on my American Wii?

I did some research, and apparently there was something called the Freeloader, but it doesn't work when the Wii is updated to 3.3 or higher. So that's out.

I heard of something called Homebrew, but I don't get it, it seems complicated and risky.

So, is there some new version or Freeloader, or an adapter of some sort, that could let me play Japanese games on my Wii?
