landlord doesn't want to know!? Unfortunately all the tiles in the bathroom of our rented house are painted, by the looks of it once with yellow paint then with white. Some of it has flaked off, especially around the bathroom + on the grout. There are transfers on some of the tiles so we can't repaint it all - it needs to look the same when we move out as it was when we moved in. Thanks!

I'd get a small putty knife and remove any loose paint. Then, I'd paint over the entire area. Maybe acrylic paint would work best. It's hard paint and good for painting kitchen cabinets or other areas that see a lot of use.

This is not your problem. This is something your landlord should be doing. It was wrong to paint the tile to begin with. If your landlord does not care, let him/her know that is how you will leave it. Paint does not adhere to ceramic tile.
