how can i open my car (1989 ford mustang) hood, that is stuck shut?

The car has been sitting for over a year and now i can't get the hood open. i pulled the hood lever as hard as i could and it wouldn't budge. Can somebody please help, maybe give me some ideas? It is a 1989 ford mustang. I think it might be rusted shut, i dont know though but i need to get under the hood
 
try banging on the hood while someone else is pulling the hood release on the inside of the car. if it opens, spay the latch with wd40. should work better after that
