How can I make my laptop faster :S? It's new! [details in description]?

Well, I have no idea why, but some games like The Sims 3 are very slow on my laptop!
I've tried formatting,defragmenting, and uninstalling unwanted applications, but it's still slow!
And I run everything on medium, btw.

Specs:
Acer 4745g laptop
Intel Core i7 2.8GHz (3.2 in turboboost mode)
Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1gb
4GB DDR3 RAM
320GB Hard Drive
Windows 7 Home premium

Please please please help me :(
This is very confusing since GTA IV runs perfectly in medium settings, but the SIMS 3 doesn't :S
