how can i make an old bike work like new again?

my grandparents gave me their road bike id say its a good 20 years old
the bike store in town i dont like because they are rude to customers. i want to learn how to restore it? anybody who works on ride bikes? any suggestions on cleaning and replacing parts? thanks for the help!
 
You want to take things apart and repack the bearings and replace cables. Shop for parts on Amazon and go to these sites for repair advice.
