How can I make a history essay really original and interesting?

I need to write an essay on the main historical events between the 16th century and the 20th century( the american revolution, the french revolution, year 1848 in Europe are just a few examples). I have the information, I've done the research but it's just something really dull, I need to find a way to make it original and interesting. It's history and it can't be something really artistic. The essay is 5-6 pages single spaced and I need to find a way ti make it appealing to the reader.
Please help.It's really a very important paper.
 
There's a book called The Glass Blowers by Daphne duMaurier. It's set in France during the revolution and talks of how people used the revolution to their advantage. Or Les Miserable. Then include the people's perspective in your essay.
