How can I make a history essay original and really interesting?

I have to write a history essay on the main historical events between the 16th century to the 20th century ( ex. the enlightenment, the french revolution, the american revolution, year 1848 in Europe, the World Wars are just a few examples) My essay is 5-6 pages single spaced. I have the information, but it's just research... I need to find a way to make it appealing to the reader, not something boring, I need to find some way to make it original but not very artistic ( we are taking about history here) and interesting.
Please help!
 
start off with a battle such as D day in WW2 or battle of Bunker Hill and give explicit detail of the combat..... then begin to tranfer into why they were fighting.....afterward go back to the traditions of america and how each generation has fought for it and how our nation as a whole has viewed war and itself through history....If its a World thing then do the same thing but only show how basically since the 16th century the world has been fighting to get basic rights....so you could start it off with 1492 when columbus found america and work your way back and show how rough the world was...then near the end talk of how good we have it in the USA because of all those historical events taking place.
