How can I make a custom stencil (for painting)?

I'd like to make a stencil, so I can spray-paint images onto my shoes.

I think he painted the details of the people himself, but I would like to put at least the "daft punk" text.

Is there an easy way to do this besides exacto knives? I know there are some "thermal faxes" or something like that, but I hear its expensive. I'm looking mainly for some kit I can buy from a retail store or a store like Kinko's that can do it.
