there are primitive folks all around the world that seem to manage.
there are parts of calif, where lots of folks live, that do not have any utilities.
but they do use propane.
there are the Amish that seem to manage w/o any help.
however, it should be noted that it's likely that they benefit from the protections that our society provides, and to which, they probably contribute a smaller share than most of us.

1. You can go back to living like we did in the early 20th century. When I was a kid we had no electric power. We had fireplaces and blankets for warmth. We also had a wood stove. Later we got an oil stove. It was easier because didn't need to cut so much wood. We preserved everything by canning, drying, or smoking in a smoke house. This is a very difficult life but can be done if you have a wood supply.

2, Go solar power if you can afford it. A decent off-grid system consists of a bunch of solar panels, Large battery bank, a charge controller, a rectifier / load controller, a diesel or gas generator, and a lot of wires, etc. This system will run you $40,000-$50,000 retail. With this system you must use gas for cooking, heat, hot water, and air conditioning. It will not carry those large loads. The time spent running the generator is determined by your locations weather.
