How can I keep zucchini from floating in my fish tank?

I have a Chinese algae eater, I feed him a slice of zucchini but I floats and he doesn't eat it if its floating. I put rocks on it but while eating the fish just knocks them off. I heard you can microwave the zucchini slice for 4 to 5 minutes and it will no longer float but that seems like a big waste of electricity.
