How can i keep my fish safe in 40 degree heat outside while fish are inside?

The air conditioner doesn't work too well so they might get hot while in the tank, how can i make sure they don't die?
so 40 degrees in Australia.
we measure our temperatures differently to other countries.

my fish also seems to only move for food so, maybe it needs to be cooler
 
I'm guess its 40 C not 40 F.
You can use the ice baggie trick. Take a baggie and fill with tank water and freeze it. Then when frozen put it in the filter so it disperse the cooler water out. Also you can try putting fan and having it blow across the tank
