How can I improve a fast food restaurant?

Making the restaurant look expensive is the wrong way to go; people will just start to assume the food is also expensive or even begin to think that a $5 value meal is expensive when it's actually not.

Making the restaurant look clean, welcoming, and comfortable is absolutely the thing to do, though. Anything that will remind someone of a McDonald's or a Burger King or any other huge name needs to change, even if it is a member of one of those chains. If the food is good, make sure people know this. Advertise Advertise Advertise!!!

A lunch special might also do you well. If you can afford to bring the price down to a bare minimum profit margin, do so for, say, 11am to 3pm.

okay so there is this fast food restaurant and there has not been many customers...it has been very slow for a while now..the owner died last year and my friend, now 19 had to take over...the location of the restaurant sucks..it's in South Los Angeles so there is a lot of weird people that are always complaining that the food is too "expensive"...and I think the only way that there is going to be more customers is if they accept food stamps but he doesn't want to do that...so what else would make the restaurant better? The food is very good...will we have to paint it? or make it look fancy? have a day special when the menu prices go down? what can improve it??

make sure the prices are actually reasonable. if "too many customers" are saying its too expensive, then it just might be. adjust the prices if you need to, but make sure you're still making money. as one person said, make sure it is very clean and inviting. make sure you're not giving the vibe of being run by teenagers. a lot of people will avoid food places because of that. i avoid places that tend to have "after school" crowds because students (especially young ones) are obnoxious and its very hard to enjoy a meal. Try reaching out to a local business or several of them if you can. take a menu or some flyers to a local big business like home depot, lowes, target, wal mart, best buy, etc and offer the employees discounts to eat there. it may be something as small as a "free soda" or 10% off but its a good place to start and the employees love it. You can also try coupons or some other promotion just to get people in the door. Once they come in, win them over with your great food and great service...you can never go wrong doing that. good luck.
