How can I identify a creature that I found washed up on the beach?

I found a gelatinous creature washed up on the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. It was fairly firm and translucent. It had a shape sort of like a volcano. Down the "slope" of the volcano were striations that divided it into 8 or so sections. Looking at it from above, you could see that each section had a mass of something white near the outside. Along its underside were little projections about and inch or two long. You could see a "fringe" of these fingers along the outer edge if you looked at it from above.

I know this is not a moon jelly. Can anyone identify it for me or tell me where I can go to figure it out? Thanks!
