How can I get to DJ at New York City clubs/bars/lounges?

I recently moved to New York City and am a talented house music DJ.. I have tried passing out CDs to clubs and bars but I don't think they ever get listened to... It seems like a lot of the DJs are so-so at best when I go out here but they are usually friends with the owner or promoter...
So how do i break in and prove myself and get regular gigs? I don't care as much about getting paid alot as getting to play out alot!
