How can I get my Sony PS3 Bluetooth to work?

I just bought the Sony PS3 Bluetooth and was able to pair it to my PS3 but when I press the Power button, the power goes on because I see the green light blink slowly and when I press the volume button up, I can hear the beep but when I talk through it, the other person cannot hear me and I cannot hear them through the bluetooth. I can hear the other person through my tv screen which I know their bluetooth works but they can't hear me and I can't hear them through the device. Tried working with this for 3 hours and got too frustrated so I stopped. Should I send this back? It got very good reviews. I don't know what to do to get this to work. HELP
Is the Sony PS3 bluetooth compatible with the PS3 60 GB?
