How can I get my research about the Mafia FROM the Mafia?

I'm in the process of writing a book, and it's my first fact based one. I feel like I'm under heavy pressure since this is Factual Book Numero Uno, but I'm slightly lacking in sources.

The aim is to get a Mafiosa view vs the common view.
 
contact police. you may get sent through to prison places etc where prisoners are being held..

or travel to russia/ italy lol and wander down some back alleys
