How can I get my microphone headset to work?

So my mom just gave me a headset, and when I try to use it, nobody can hear me. I'm trying to use Yahoo, so I've been going to 'Actions' and then 'call setup'. Everything on there works fine, but still, nobody can hear me on the other line. Any help would be AWESOME! Thanks!
