How can I get my Honda VLX 600 to start?

I broke my foot and was unable to ride for approx 3 weeks. I rode it one time down the street approx 2 miles. the next day it wouldn't start. After charging the battery for 3 hours the lights would come on, but when I pushed the starter the solenoid would just "click" rapidly. I assume this means the battery is not pushing enough amps. Not sure if I should charge the battery longer. Didn't want to buy a new battery if the solenoid needed to be replaced.
Cable connections are good
