How can I get my Bichon/Poodle X to stop eating everything in sight?

The first day he arrived he ate a eraser and some plastic. Then he threw it up! The next day he ate some clothes and he ate something and puked it up! Then the day afterwards, he ate paper and threw it up! I know this is gonna sound gross but he went to the bathroom the next morning and got into the grabage and ate some of a blood some maxi pad, yuck! I feel bad because I need to tie him up so he won't eat anything else that is dangerous. I mean all the above seem dangerous but at the moment he is fine. I mean we have chemicals and under the sink and he ate a dvd case yesterday. What can I do? He's 5. I got him the week of new year's eve? So I haven't had him long. I mean he isn't eating up anything valuable but the stuff he's eating can make him very sick! He's fine already with training a.k.a potty time, eating time, walking time, sleep time. I've got him trained like that but he eats anything that gets in the way. The first walk I gave him, he ate a slug! Any help? I tried asking dog trainers but they say to put things out of reach or block areas. We can't do that since we have dogs that need to go outside and dogs that go to bed, etc. And everything is put up he just finds it. I really can't get any advice from Vets because their more of a this question type, "'Why isn't' my dog eating?" I mean could they help, anyway thanks for the help :)!
