Right now i'm looking at my options for financial aid. I'm an international student and so my options are very limited. My mother basically has no income because she's a sort-of-an intern. My dad earns a pre-tax salary of 150,000$. Where I live taxes are much higher than in America, so we're practically left with about 65,000$ mean a-year.
My parents own a house worth 350,000$ and they have about 200,000$ in savings. Unlike in America, where I live it is very uncommon for people to spend their entire life savings on stuff like college expenses, and usually people save everything for retirement.
I'll be the only one in the family attending college.
I'm also aiming for colleges like Williams or Amherst, which offer need-blind admission to intl students. The cost for those is about 50,000$ a year. My parents can pay 5,000$ and I'll be able to work-study, probably nothing more than that. There is no way I can pay the costs of those colleges and also taking loans for education is highly uncommon where I live (Israel). Tuition here is 4,000$ everywhere.
Should I lie on my Fin Aid application about the family's assets? Is there a way to "lower" income? What should I do??
